Testing the ODBC Connection

Follow the steps below to test the ODBC connection (Example of connecting to MS SQL database)

  1. Open Excel.
  2. Select File > New.
  3. Select Data > Import External Data > New Database Query.
  4. Select the ODBC DSN you created .
  5. Click Ok
  6. Enter the database password.
  7. Click Ok.
  8. Select a table to view, and then click the > button.
  9. Click Next.
  10. Click Next.

NOTE: If the table contains many records, you may want to only retrieve a limited number of records. If so, select a column to use as a filter, and then enter the conditional rules before clicking the Next button.

  1. Click Next.
  2. Make sure Return Data to Microsoft Office Excel option is selected.
  3. Click Finish.
  4. Click Ok to import the date into Excel.
    Result: Data is imported starting from Excel Cell A1. If data imported correctly the sheet will be populated with data from the table you selected.
