Configure Data Sources

External Data Sources are part of the SmartSolve forms management framework that supports end-user defined data sources for look-up and drop down list value selection. With electronic data sources you can:

Retrieve data from another database.
Retrieve data from your SmartSolve database on your network.
Retrieve data from another application through a web service call.

The External Data Sources utility allows users to configure fields in SmartSolve to zoom (search) or to display information from a data source outside of the application. This allows an administrator to link external data, which may be managed in a third party application, to a SmartSolve field within a form (record).

To use external data sources, you must:

Define the ODBC System Data Source Name (DSN) on the SmartSolve server.
Define the external data source in the SmartSolve application.
